San Jose Sharks Will Not Qualify Goalie Zach Sawchenko

Per Sheng Peng, the San Jose Sharks have confirmed that they will not be qualifying RFA goaltender Zach Sawchenko.

Sawchenko got his first crack in the NHL last year during a spell of injuries to the Sharks goaltending corps. In 7 appearances, Sawchenko had 3 starts with 1 win and posted a .901 save percentage.

For the Sharks AHL affiliate, Sawchenko only played in 14 games posting 4 wins and a 0.877 SV% for the Barracuda. Needless to say, 2021-22 was not kind to Zach.

Zach is young and has put up some really good numbers in the past. So this is just a speed bump for the 24 year old Calgary native. There’s plenty of teams this year that need help in the goaltending department, and the free agent market for goalies is pretty sparse for 2022-23. I fully expect Sawchenko to get another crack with a new organization this year. We’ll just have to wait and see!
