Washington Capitals 2 – Anaheim Ducks 0
John Gibson: the man, the myth, the RVH legend. If there’s a puck in the corner, you know where Gibby’s sliding — straight into the RVH, like it’s his favorite pair of sweatpants. Unfortunately, this tactic sometimes leaves him looking like he’s trying to peek over a brick wall when traffic builds in front of him. Case in point: Washington’s first goal. A seemingly innocent shot from the faceoff circle turned into a Caps celebration because Gibby couldn’t track it through the chaos. This pattern of battling traffic is like watching me try to navigate Costco on a Sunday — messy and occasionally painful.
First Period Highlights
Gibby showed flashes of brilliance early, kicking out a prime scoring chance off his left pad to the short side. A chef’s kiss of a save! But, as the period went on, the RVH story continued, culminating in that unfortunate first goal. You’d think someone gave him a discount code for “Unlimited RVH.”
Second Period Showdown
We got a rare glimpse of Gibby handling the puck! A few highlights here:
- A backhand escape under pressure near the net (bold move).
- A hard rim up the boards, which almost worked, until it was stopped by Carlsson.
Gibby’s puck handling wasn’t the problem tonight. The Caps’ second goal, though? That one stung. Carlson turned a loose puck in the slot into a laser-guided missile, roofing it over Gibby’s glove. Let’s be honest — not much anyone could’ve done there.
Milestone Watch
While the Ducks’ offense sputtered like a lawnmower out of gas, John Gibson quietly moved closer to franchise history. With 22 saves in his 17th start of the season, Gibby is now just five games shy of becoming the first goalie in Ducks history to hit 500 appearances. That’s right, folks — we’re witnessing history, one RVH slide at a time.
The Verdict
It wasn’t Gibby’s worst night, but it wasn’t his best either. He flashed brilliance but was ultimately betrayed by defensive lapses and traffic. Onward to the next game, where we’ll see if the Ducks can find the back of the net and Gibby can find his way out of the RVH.
